How do crazy people get through the forest? They take the psychopath."
With a knack for wrangling natural light and manipulating color, AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHER Craig Cameron Olsen has been capturing subjects both intense and sublime for over twenty years.
He's a people person, a real renaissance man, an adventurer, his peerless ability with real people, capturing honest, authentic, genuine, moments has won him a loyal client list in the advertising and editorial industry, but above all else-he's an exquisite storyteller. Whether using his lens to document the rugged versatility of the toughest vehicles on the planet, or mans never ending drive to push the extreme sporting envelope, Olsen is a master of drawing out the details and humanity that make any shot transform into a visual narrative.
Famous for his exuberant personality, it might surprise a few that Olsen's passion for photography was sparked by something that bordered on bone-chilling solitude. He explain's,"I spent two seasons at Mcmurdo Station as a member of the ANS Team in the Antarctic Program, the solitude and isolation I felt was like a chrysalis. While there, I met and became friends with National Geographic Staff Photographer, George F. Mobley. His influence was a major factor for me, as we both shared the enchantment of the Arctic regions."
Since that life-changing Polar experience, Olsen has traveled to far- flung reaches of the world, documenting its people, their habitats, and their stories.
Olsen's distinctive style has won him IPA, APA and CLIO awards, been featured twice on the covers of Communications Arts, and included in several books, most recently MEME WARS by Kalle Last, AP27, Exposure 20 Years of Photography by Outside magazine and Ray Gun Out Of Control.
After establishing himself as one of the most acclaimed lifestyle-adventure-travel photographers out there, Craig was hand selected to shoot one of the first family lifestyle campaigns for Volvo. He went on to shoot ground breaking campaigns for Toyota Sequoia (Anything But Ordinary), Toyota FJ Cruiser (Moving Forward), and Nissan Sentra (7 days in a Sentra), among many others. His love of adventure and years of experience in the outdoors made him a natural fit for the fast pace of Automotive Lifestyle Adventure shoots.
Tying his editorial and commercial work together is the constant thread that makes CCO who he is...the ability to break down barriers and find the inner light and personality behind anything and anyone he shoots.
